The Michigan Department of Education (MDE), in collaboration with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and the Michigan Association of Pupil Transportation (MAPT), has officially opened applications for the 74(b) Clean Bus Energy Grant. This $125 million program is designed to assist Michigan school districts in replacing aging diesel school buses with cleaner, more environmentally friendly alternatives.

Program Highlights:
– Funding Amount: Up to $125 million available.
– Eligible Recipients: Public school districts in Michigan.
– Funding Coverage: Up to 70% of the cost for an electric school bus, charging station, and infrastructure.
– High-need districts may receive up to 90% of total project costs.
– Lower levels of funding available for alternative-fueled buses.

Priority Criteria:
The program prioritizes high-need districts by examining:
– Income levels.
– Environmental risk factors.
– Rural or indigenous populations.
